Gov’t assures of security as KCPE starts today

Turkana County Commissioner Muthama Wambua has assured candidates and supervisors in this year’s national examinations of their security as the KCPE examination starts today.

Speaking during the opening of the KCPE examination container at the county commissioner headquarters in Lodwar, Wambua said enough security personnel have been deployed to guarantee the security of the candidates.

“Two police officers have been deployed to each examination centre and we have extra security officers from Rapid Deployment Unit, border patrol unit who are on standby in areas like Kainuk, Kapedo, Kakong, Nadapal and Lokori to support the officers in charge of examination centre should need arise,” said Wambua.

A total of 8,923 candidates among them 5,097 boys and 3,844 girls are sitting their KCPE this morning in 266 examination centres. Wambua at the same time warned politicians against campaigning near schools during the examination period.

“We are calling upon politicians to be considerate and avoid campaigning near schools, anyone found flouting this directive will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said.

He added that the government has distributed relief food to areas affected by drought and assured candidates that the government is keen to see them sit their examination in conducive environment.

Loima Member of Parliament Jeremiah Lomurukai also pledged support for the candidates saying the political class will cooperate with security agencies to ensure candidates sit examinations in peaceful atmosphere.

Lomurukai has appealed to the government to provide security in volatile areas like Todonyang, Kapedo, Kainuk, Letea. He also urged all stakeholders to be vigilant to guard against examination cheating.
