Nanok elected as the new Council of Governors

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 22 – Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok is the new Council of Governors Chairman, replacing his Meru counterpart Peter Munya whose term came to an end after serving for two years.

In elections held on Monday, Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu will retain the deputy chairman’s post while William Kabogo of Kiambu is the new chief whip.

The elections were held three months to the General Election, meaning the governors will have to elect a new chairman in the event Nanok fails to recapture his Turkana seat.

During his acceptance speech, the Turkana Governor stated that the fair conclusion of the Division of Revenue Allocation bill will form part of his agenda as he assumes office.

“I have just taken over office a few months before new governors are elected and sworn in. Our main agenda is finishing up the short term priorities that the council has which include the fair conclusion of the Division of Revenue Allocation Bill that allocates money to counties,” he stated.

He explained that the council will also be looking at pending legislation and any pending work that needs to be done before the end of the duration.
