KALPA WELCOMES THE RELEASE OF TWO KENYAN PILOTS

Nairobi 20 February 2018:  Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) welcomes the release of Captain Frank Njoroge and Co-Pilot Kennedy Shamalla, and takes this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts by various parties in securing their freedom following the unfortunate aircraft accident on 7th January 2018 and subsequent detention by rebel forces in Akobo, South Sudan.

Now that our two colleagues are back home, we wish to call on key stakeholders – Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, Kenyan Commercial and Chartered Flight Operators – to take a proactive lead in defining a framework that secures the safety and wellbeing of Kenyan pilots operating in high risk areas.

We believe that such a collaborative approach would serve the interests of all parties and, at best, completely eliminate unfortunate incidents such as the recent illegal detention of our two colleagues.
