NASA Leaders Hon Raila Odinga and Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka have applauded the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to reduce the VAT tax from 16% to 8 % adding that this will effectively reduce the already skyrocketing cost of living.
The Leaders said now it is upon parliament and service providers to take up the matter and legislate on it and service providers reduce the prices of commodities respectively.
Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged the business people who had increased the prices of commodities including fuel to follow the presidents wish and effectively reduce the prices of goods so as cost of living can come down.
He says fuel is the driver of the economy so when the price is increased, every other economy of scale is instantly affected thus the now high cost of living for the common wanchi.
“I want to applaud President Kenyatta for listening to the cry of the common wanchi and reduced the VAT from 16 to 8 percent; subsequently we expect our business people to reduce the price of commodities which they had already increased to affordable prices” said Kalonzo
NASA Leaders Raila Odinga adding that there was need to develop this country that is why the VAT had been introduced but added that after the cry of Wanchi, the president had to reduce it by half to balance the equation.
“After this budget, Kenyans cried because of 16 % VAT, now it has been reduced, the ball is on parliament, we need to balance development and affordable cost of living, but most importantly is fight against corruption” said Raila.
The two leaders spoke today when they attended the weddings of Khalid Nadhif son to former Garissa Governor Nadhif jamal at Memon Masjid in South C and later Faron Mwenda, son to Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi at Karen Blixen in Nairobi.
