Kalonzo Meets Consultants to Revamp Wiper for 2022

Nairobi, October 12, 2018 – Less than a week after he led a political delegation to State House, Wiper Democratic Movement leader Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka has today hosted a high-powered team of African political consultants as part of his strategy to revamp the party in the run-up to the 2022 General Election.

Speaking at the Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya headquarters in Karen, Kalonzo told the visiting consultants that he fully welcomed their co-operation with his party “because we intend to win the Presidency in 2022.”

“Currently, we are the third largest political party (after Jubilee and ODM) but as we forge ahead towards 2022, I see Wiper Movement becoming the biggest political movement in Kenya,” Kalonzo said. “We are ready, as Wiper, to start this engagement with you,” he told the visitors.

Wiper Democratic Movement would continue to uphold the ideals of social democracy, Kalonzo added.

Concerning the political situation in the country, Kalonzo told the visitors that President Uhuru Kenyatta, in an effort to ensure a sound legacy, had set up a team for a review of the Constitution to ensure that future elections would not be compromised.

“Currently, following the “handshake” between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the country is peaceful, but the peace is only superficial. People are still hurting. We have to go back and rebuild the confidence of the people in our electoral process.”

Kehinde Bamigbetan, the President of the African political consultancy group, assured Kalonzo that he and his team would use their expertise to boost Wiper Movement’s support among Kenyans with the aim of winning popular vote in the next elections.

“We will aim at developing a strong Wiper Movement brand identity through mass campaigns via the Internet, mobile phones and also by intensive door-to-door campaigns…This will end the era of contacting boardroom priests,” Kehinde said.

The goal of the group, he added, would be to help Wiper Movement  increase its membership by 100 per cent in the next six months, as well as to transform how people (voters) “perceive your ideology, party symbols and manifesto to ensure that all these resonate with Kenyans, and particularly young people”.

Also in attendance was Reza Kazemi, the President of the European Association of Political Consultants. Mr. Kazemi and his team also assured Kalonzo of their support in revamping the Wiper Movement.

Also in attendance was Wiper Secreatry General Senator Judith Sijeny and Mr. Kipng’eno Kirui Duncan, the Secretary General of the Association of Political Consultants-Africa, Kenya Chapter

The visitors have been in Nairobi this week for the 3rd Africa Political Summit of the Association of Political Consultants-Africa – an Association dedicated to professionalizing political consulting across the continent. The Association also aims at promoting good governance, free and fair elections, as well as empowerment of women and young people.

This year’s event is being held under the theme “Building Strong Democracies in Africa” and has attracted elected officials and public affairs professionals from Africa and across the globe. It aims to build on the success of previous events in Cape Town and Lagos, respectively.

Kalonzo officially opened the Summit on Wednesday at Intercontinental Hotel.
