The investment is part of the Foundation’s strategy to promote education across the country
Nairobi, Kenya 11th February 2019… Thika School for the Blind has received a Kshs. 5.4million solar power system from Safaricom Foundation to avert learning disruptions during power blackouts.
The solar power system will also enable the institution cut down on electricity costs.
The donation by Safaricom Foundation includes the installation of LED lighting in the classrooms, dormitories and computer laboratories together with solar panels to act as the main source of power.
“This solar power system will ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for this institution as envisioned in Sustainable Development Goal number 7 on access to affordable and clean energy,” said James Maitai – Head of Nairobi West and Mt Kenya Regions Safaricom.
Since its inception 16 years ago, Safaricom Foundation has been keen on supporting children who are differently abled to allow them access inclusive and equitable quality education.
The foundations 2018-2021 strategy focuses on three key pillars-Education, Health and Economic Empowerment.
