GSU officer Ali Kombo Receives The Heroes Award

February 26, NAIROBI – Constable Ali Kombo was honored with Heroes Award at a gala held at the Tribe Hotel in Nairobi.

Constable Ali Kombo received the commendation in recognition of his outstanding performance and heroic deeds at the rescue operations during the Dusit attack. The action of the GSU officer at the 14 riverside siege – terror scene helped to save countless lives.

Presenting the award, Raphael Obonyo, who is an Advisor with the United Nations and the Convener of The Youth Congress congratulated Mr Kombo

“This is a special award for individuals who keep doing their best, and give hope using their example, like Police Officer Kombo who acted without regard to his own safety and rose beyond the call of duty. He said” Obonyo said

“Mr Kombo’s commitment to service, is something we can all learn from and emulate” Obonyo said

“As we criticize the police, we should also recognize some of their good deeds” He added

Receiving the award, Mr Kombo expressed his gratitude for the award.

“Thank you for this rare honor, you have given me and fellow officers hope to do more, and to do better” Kombo said during his acceptance remarks

“We must all work together, summon our best selves, and always do our best in whichever position we are given” Kombo said

Also present at the ceremony were Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. Maurice Odanga, and Constable Daniel Mutua.

Each year the Obonyo Foundation presents Commendation Award to those people who have displayed outstanding initiative, expertise and empathy towards their fellow human beings by applying extraordinary skills in emergency situations and sometimes at risk to themselves.
