Three arraigned in court over defilement cases

Three men, among them a 60-year-old man have separately appeared before a Nyahururu court charged with defiling underage girls.

In the first case Solomon Kariuki Mwangi who appeared before the Resident Magistrate Cynthia Muhoro denied defiling the 16 year old girl.

The court was told that the accused committed the offence at Kokoji location, Nyandarua County on May 21, 2019.

He was also charged with indecently assaulting the girl by touching her private parts. The case will be mentioned on June 5, 2019.

Levi Mzungu was charged with defiling a 14 year old girl on May 27, 2019 at Mala village in Nyandarua. The case will be mentioned on June12, 2019 when a probation report will be presented to court after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

In yet another defilement case, Moffat Mwangi Muthoni also appeared in the same court accused of defiling a girl aged 15 years at Vatican village in OlKalou town, Nyandarua County between September last year and May this year. He denied the charge.

Elsewhere in Makueni a man who pleaded guilty in a defilement case has been acquitted by a Makueni law court for lack of evidence to support the charges.

The Senior Principal Magistrate (SPM) James Mwaniki, acquitted Daniel Mutie saying the complainant did not present her birth certificate to prove her age which is a requirement when filing a defilement case.

The accused, who had pleaded guilty to the charges, is alleged to have defiled 17 year old girl between May 8 and 23, 2019 at Muambani village in Kathonzweni Sub County.

The court sources indicate that the two were married for one week without the consent of the parents, attorney general and the church and had been sexually active for one week.

In Kisumu a 34 year old man who was alleged to have been defiling his two daughters aged 5 and 12 years in Manyatta area has denied the charge before Winam Courts Resident Magistrate F. M. Rashid.

Chrispine Otieno told the court he could not do such a heinous act on his children and unsuccessfully pleaded with the court to release him so as to seek medical attention. The prosecution argued that the matter was still under investigation and the accused was likely to interfere with witnesses.

Otieno was arrested on Friday last week after being frog-marched by an irate mob to Kondele Police station.

The two children are admitted at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital where they are undergoing examination and treatment.The hearing will be on June 6 2019.
