It’s all systems go as key stakeholders drum up support for the historic match

Nairobi May 31, 2019… The Government through the Ministry of Sports ,Ministry of Tourism, Football Kenya Federation and The Nairobi County Government has today reaffirmed support for the much-awaited high profile match between the winners of the 2019 SportPesa Cup, Kariobangi Sharks and UK’s Everton Football Club.

The friendly match which marks Everton’s inaugural trip to Kenya will be the first 2019 pre-season friendly for the seasoned Liverpool-based English Premier League Club and the second visit to East Africa. The club first visited East Africa in July 2017 courtesy of SportPesa.

The two ministries committed to support the event sponsor SportPesa and the Football Kenya Federation to make Everton’s maiden tour a success noting that  such events have enormous economic and social benefits for the host country.

SportPesa CEO, Capt. Ronald Karauri said: “I consider it a great honour to host a leading English Premier League club in Kenya. It is an even greater privilege to arrange a landmark event where a talented Kenyan team gets the opportunity to go head to head with this top English team,”

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa noted that preparations for the match are in top gear, remarking that the game is a great opportunity to boost careers in local football as well as sports development in the country.

Kariobangi Sharks FC earned the right to host Everton, one of the most seasoned clubs in the EPL, after beating Kenya’s Bandari FC to win the 2019 SportPesa Cup Tournament that took place in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, in January.

While in Kenya, Everton and SportPesa will take part in a range of cultural and charitable activities across Nairobi.
