A form four student at Tot Secondary School was shot dead while heading home on a motorbike while one other person sustained injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Elgeyo Marakwet County Police Commander (CPC), John Mwinzi said police had launched investigations into the killing.
He, however, said the police were treating it as murder and dispelled reports that it was as a result of cattle rustling among communities living in the area.
The CPC said he was on a tour of the area to assess the security situation, saying it was calm and that security had been beefed up.
Students from Tot secondary staged a demonstration walking 37km to the Deputy County Commissioner’s office at Chesoi to demand their security to protest the student’s killing.
This is the third student to be killed in the area in a span of three months.
