KDF to join rescue and humanitarian operations in West Pokot

President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to join ongoing rescue and humanitarian operations in West Pokot following a landslide that has so far claimed 29 lives.

The president made the directive in a statement where he condoled with the families of the people affected by the Saturday morning landslide which was caused by heavy rains.

“I have directed the deployment of resources including rescue personnel from our various security and humanitarian agencies covering the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Police Service and Special Programmes to the affected region so as to provide mitigative action against further loss of lives. The operation will continue round the clock until the situation normalizes,” the president said.

Mr. Kenyatta further directed regional commanders in areas prone to landslides to ensure residents of the areas are relocated to safer grounds.
