Shock as garbage collectors litter streets in Nairobi over unpaid dues

Nairobi City residents on Tuesday woke up to filthy streets after garbage collectors contracted by City Hall went on strike and spilled litter on the streets over non-payment.

Angry garbage collectors went around the streets of the country’s capital, emptying dustbins on the streets.

Nairobi County Executive Committee Member for Environment Larry Wambua confirmed to journalists that the collectors were protesting over non-payment and blamed a recent reshuffle saying it is not clear who is in charge at the County’s finance office.

Last week, the national government took over a section of functions of Nairobi County Government.
