Government orders fast steps in search and rescue operations at Chesogon

The government has directed the Ministry of Interior to speed up the search and rescue efforts to find persons who were reported missing following the mudslide at Chesogon trading center the border of West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

Government Spokesman Col. Cyrus Oguna in a statement said that five officers and two civilians had already been rescued and airlifted to Moi Teaching and Refferal Hospital in Eldoret for treatment.

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, George Natembeya is currently at the scene leading a multi-agency team of first responders in the execution of the response plan.
