Former Kericho county officials charged over graft

A former officer at the Kericho County Government has been arrested alongside six others over an alleged graft relating to a kshs. 5.6 million tender.

The six include; Kosygey, Joash Chirchir (Civil Engineer, Kericho County), Charles Mabwai ( Procurement Officer, Kericho County), Aaron Waiharo Njoroge (Accountant, Kericho County), Stanley Ruto Cheruiyot ( Roads Inspector, Kericho County), Lilian Chepkoech Kirui (Roads Inspector, Kericho County) and John Kimutai Rotich (Director, Jawlink Logistics Limited).

Mr Peter Kosgey was arrested following investigations into a contract that was awarded for the construction of Bae – Kapsimotwet Kibaraa Road in Belgut.

It was alleged that the officer who oversaw the issuance of the tender was a director of a company named Jawlink Logistics Limited.

“Among the issues established during the investigations include that the county officials irregularly awarded contract No. CGK/Q033/RD/2015- 2016 …to Jawlink Logistics Limited at a tender sum of Ksh. 5,600,000,” a statement from the anti-corruption agency read part.

Ethics and Anti-corruption investigators sighted that the company that was awarded the tender was neither prequalified by the county government nor registered with the National Construction Authority.
