Use of national ID cards to cease by next year

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Muchiri has said that the use of National ID cards will cease from December 12th next year.

Mucheru said this while announcing that the issuance of Huduma Cards across the country will kick-off from December 1st.

He urged government agencies and business establishment to install necessary technology that will accept usage of the cards saying the cards will have a QR code that is readable on phone.

“We have started the process of installing these machines in all government offices so as to enable service seekers to use the cards or just their fingerprints,” he said.

Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’i said that in view of the COVID-19 prevention and control protocols, Kenyans will be notified via SMS when and where to pick the cards.
