It is now official, the referendum campaigns will commence from July 13 to August 2 the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) has announced.
This clearly distinguishes the ongoing civic education period from the campaigns from the yes and No camps ahead of the referendum
Prior to the said dates, any group for or against the constitution is not allowed to conduct whichever form of campaign for or against the Proposed Constitution.
This announcement comes a t a time the opponents and proponents of the new laws, are already moving across the country to try and woo voters to vote for or against the constitution.
In the name of carrying out civic education, both camps have launched their campaigns and are already laying down strategies and programs for their campaigns countrywide.
The Committee of Experts, the body charged with educating Kenyans on the content of the draft has already launched civic education in a bid to empower Kenyans so that they can vote from an informed point of view on the Proposed Constitution in the August referendum.
The IIEC has also published referendum laws and regulations in a special gazette.
The commission has so far registered over 12 million voters and the number is expected to rise following the ongoing electronic voter registration in 18 pilot constituencies in Kenya which will be completed on Friday.
