More than 2,500 athletes are expected to participate in this year's Sotokoto marathon scheduled for this Sunday 23rd May in Nairobi.
Race director Robert Ouko said that as by on Tuesday 18th May 2010 which was the last day for registration after an extension from 15th May, 2,500 athletes had registered but the number is expected to rise with the arrival of more entry forms thought to be from the countryside.
Meanwhile, certain roads in the routes that will be used for the race will remain closed on Sunday morning until the end of the race.
Three major roads will be closed on Sunday during the marathon with motorists using Langata Road, Mbagathi Way and Aerodrome Road having to use alternative routes so as to give way to athletes who will be using Langata Road for the marathon.
While announcing the roads that will be closed, Nairobi Area deputy Traffic Commandant Leonard Katana said that security for both participants and spectators will be beefed up.
Katana urged the public and motorists to cooperate with the police to ensure that the race is successfully.
