Church Leaders Hails Rulling on Kadhi's Courts

A section of church leaders on Tuesday welcomed the court ruling that was delivered on Monday by the High Court of Kenya terming inclusion of Kadhis court in the constitution as unconstitutional and discriminative.

Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi the church leaders led by the National Council Churches of Kenya Secretary General Rev Canon Peter Karanja said that the move made by the high court was very timely since there is an ongoing debate in the country on the inclusion of Kadhis court in the proposed constitution.

He further said that it is not too late for Kenyans to get the proposed new constitution since there is still time for the amendments to be made on the contentious issues

“It is not too late to achieve the constitution but parliament should make amendments before referendum”, said Karanja.

The issue of funding the campaign could not be left out by the church leaders who said that it was long overdue for the government to fund one side, but insisted on the government to be fair in funding both sides.

On the other hand Mr. Gerry Kibabara who is also a member of the national council of churches said that he was proud of the move made by the High Court.

“Nobody listened to our grievances but God finally answered our prayers”, observed Kibarabara.

Kibarabara lamented that some critics term them as anti reformist and misleading the public on the proposed new constitution.

He further said that they will continue with the civic education to enlighten Kenyans on the need of opposing the proposed constitution.

He stressed the need of having a new constitution but if only amendments are made on the contentious issues.
