Leaders from the African Inland Church (AIC) in the South Rift region have said that they will not allow the ordination of reverend Paul Kirui as the bishop.
The leaders accused senior church leaders of fuelling wrangles in the church by going ahead to replace the current bishop Edwin Koech with Rev. Kirui.
Speaking during a meeting at church’s Litein offices, they said that they will not support the ordination ceremony slated for Sunday this week to be presided over by Bishop Silas Yego.
The leaders drawn from various local churches led by James Sang said that the regional church council had not been involved in the issue.
Rev. Kirui has been acting as bishop for the last 6 months since the suspension of Bishop Koech over allegations of sexual harassment of a former acting principal of Litein AIC Girls Secondary School.
However the leaders said they will stand by Bishop Koech until the allegations were proven adding that Bishop Yego should strive to reconcile church members.
Bishop Koech vowed to stay put saying that the ordination should not take place until the allegations leveled against him were dealt with.
The cleric said his ouster was illegal and against the constitution of the church saying he will fight for his rights as the church leader.
He said those supporting the move to ordain his assistant were taking advantage of the situation to settle their personal differences.
Bishop Yego has however vowed to go on with the ceremony saying that Bishop Koech should first clear his name from the allegations.
