The Chairman's Cup


Kass Football, also known as the Chairman’s Cup, is an initiative of Kass Media through Kass Sports and Entertainment.

 

It is one of the major sporting events on the Kass Sports calendar along with the Kass Marathon. The event is aimed at promoting peace and harmony within the Rift Valley through sports which brings together youth from diverse cultural backgrounds from all the districts of the province.

Since its inception in February 2007, the tournament has elicited excitement amongst the youth in the province who eagerly anticipate the event - which has seen many quit vices such as idleness, which contributes to increase in crime, alcoholism and irresponsible sexual behavior.

Through the event, youth get to showcase their talent in a tournament that is organized from the grass root level to the district level, then the inter-zonal which is categorized into the Northern Zone, Southern Zone, Central and the Eastern Zones before it culminates in the finals where the winning team takes Ksh. 1 Million, second position takes Ksh. 500,000 while the third pockets Ksh. 250,000 and the fourth gets a Ksh. 100,000 reward. Through such awards, residents of the province are able to make a living by putting the cash prize into constructive investments under the guidance of the Kass Media team.

The tournament also helps foster a culture of unity, responsibility and helps create a harmony and excitement in a series of objectives associated with football, which include- discipline, self control and teamwork. Just as football calls for discipline and teamwork from all the players, the tournament aims at instilling the same mentality into the youths into working as teams, which can be translated into economic groups that can help them initiate development projects to uplift their standards of living.

Through football, youth also exercise fair play and which is geared at promoting fairness in society where everyone is given an equal chance. It also enhances endurance and makes the youth realize that life is a struggle through which everyone needs to keep pushing until the end, just as football player goes for goal up to the 90th minute, as well as the need for people to maintain their youthful energy always and direct that to help drive the society towards greater heights.

Registration for the tournament will start mid April and will roll out right from the grass root level and the tournament will run trough to August when the finals will be held and the winners awarded in each category. The uniqueness of the tournament is that it makes a sport popular in men open to all genders. There is a women’s tournament with equal opportunity and prize money as the men’s.

Previous events have revealed that women too can participate in the sport and showcase skill that has surprised many, proving to women that they too can achieve anything they set their minds to. It has also made them engage in social activities, learn to interact and them being the backbone of society steer it towards social integration for the benefit of peace and harmony.

At Kass, we endeavor to build confidence amongst our fans and steer a new initiatives and contribute to society by way of cash prizes awarded through the sports events which have transformed many lives.

The Kalenjin/Kaleenchin language is spoken by close to 6 million people in Kenya with substantial numbers also in Uganda and Tanzania. The Kalenjin linguistic family in Kenya includes the Marakwet, Nandi, Sabaot, Kibsikiis, Terik, Keyyo,Tuken, Seng'wer, Ogiek and Pokot. These groups are mutually intelligible despite their variants of the Kalenjin language. This dictionary, the product of 15 years research activity is the first Kalenjin/English dictionary. It includes 13703 entries and is the hope of the author that the dictionary get improved and expanded. As words die or fall out of use, new words are created and given new meaning. The first edition is a system of that process.

Peter Rono won the 1,500 metres at the 1988 Summer Olympic games beating favourites Peter Elliott and Steve Cram of Great Britain thus becoming the youngest Olympic Champion to win the 1500 m. Ambassador Peter Rono, is an only child who grew up in humble background in Nandi, Kenya. Armed with champion stories from his grandfather's successes and his mother's unrelenting faith in God he begins a journey of firsts. With energy Peter's story easily moves from strength to strength.
