PM Underscores Governments Commitment to Implement New Law
Prime Minister Raila Odinga has underscored the role of the National Economic and Social Council (NESC) in the Implementation of the new constitution within the set time frame,.
He proposed that members of the council from the private sector could formulate working groups to deliberate on recommendations to fast track the entrenchment of the new laws to beat the set deadlines.
“As the highest advisory body of the government NESC has a duty to make fundamental contribution towards successful implementation of the constitution which Kenyans approved” The Premier said.
He suggested that permanent secretaries from whose dockets certain clauses on the constitution were reviewed to only observe the operations of the working groups and answer arising queries on government operations.
Odinga said NESC membership had a wealth of expertise and experience which could be exploited to make the envisaged reforms in the country a reality. The premier made the suggestion during the opening session of NESC meeting held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre. President Mwai Kibaki and almost the entire members of the cabinet gr aced the occasion.
He said the coalition government was ready for the task ahead but asked Kenyans to closely monitor the implementation process and whenever possible act as whistle blowers whenever things go otherwise.
“If we see any slippages in implementing the constitution either by the Executive and the Legislature, as citizens please do not hesitate to raise alarm” Odinga said.
He expressed optimism that the country would overcome the impending challenges and reap the proceeds of the changes and strengthen her economic dominance in the region market.
