Kenyan VP Call for Sober Politics
Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has urged political leaders to develop a new political culture under the new political dispensation.
Mr. Musyoka said for the new Constitution to signify change and renewal, politicians must avoid parochial politics driven by smear campaigns, name calling and use of abusive language.
“We must raise the standard of our politics to match with our aspirations under a new Constitutional order. Things like inciting others and shouting down bishops in public forums should be a thing of the past,” he said.
The Vice President was speaking during the Consecration and Enthronement of Canon Joel Waweru Mwangi as the second Bishop of the Diocese of Nairobi at St. Stephens Cathedral Church, Jogoo Road.
The Consecration ceremony was led by Archbishop Dr. Eliud Wabukala, the presiding bishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya.
Mr. Musyoka congratulated the new and retired Bishops and recognized the role the church plays in nation building and urged them not to fear to speak about corruption in the country.
National Assembly Speaker Mr. Kenneth Marende congratulated the new Bishop and called on all Kenyans to live like brothers and sisters and urged them to forget the past and continue building the nation.
He assured the congregation that he will continue to support the church in all its endeavors.
Bishop Mwangi said the church must be relevant to the needs of the people and thanked all Christians for the support they gave him.
He added that the church will continue to hold the government accountable to the people and urged leaders to continue the fight against corruption.
The ceremony was attended by the Permanent Secretary Provincial Administration and Internal Security, Francis Kimemia, Nairobi PC, Waweru Ndirangu, Maragwa MP, Elias Mbau and MP for Mathioya Clement Wambugu, former MPs Reuben Ndolo, Dick Wathika, Maina Kamanda and Bishops among other dignitaries.
