The government has said that it had introduced over 500,000 fingerlings at a cost of Sh3.2m in the dying
According to the PS in the ministry for fisheries development Professor Micheni Ntiba they had also constructed 300 fish ponds in Naivasha district and stocked them at over Sh13m.
He said that it required all ministries to work together to deal with the water hyacinth weed which has affected fishing and navigation of lake.
The PS was speaking in Kamere beach in Naivasha during celebrations to mark the World Fisheries day.
During the well attended function local leaders called for urgent measures to deal with water hyacinth that has covered a third of the lake.
Naivasha DC Hellen Kiilu and the chairman boat operators David Kilo warned that if unchecked the weed could paralyze fishing and tourism in the lake.
Others present during the function included Central Rift Regional Commissioner Amos Gathecha and other senior government officials.
