Kenya is expected to have its first electric train which be launched alongside the Lamu port set to start next month.

Speaking at Strathmore University, Prime Minister Raila Odinga said that Kenya had not extended its rail network since the completion of the Mombasa-Kisumu railway line and the extention to Kampala.
During the function attended also by General Electric C.E.O Jeff Immelt, Odinga revealed that the Lapsset project will cost $24.6 billion and will be the single biggest investment project in Africa adding that the completion of the project will see a transformation in the economies of Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
