Kenyans Commend Government for Construction of Thika Highway

Kenyans are celebrating the opening of the Thika superhighway by the government.

The excited residents who commute from the estates next to Thika road said that they are taking less than a half an hour to travel to town or back.

“We used to take a minimum of one and half hours to travel one way. We used to pay up to Kshs 200 Kenyans shillings. We now pay as less as ten bob when going to town in the evening, or getting back home in the morning,” said Wanjala James a security guard who stays in Githaurai.

Speaking to the Kenya News Agency, a local journalist who writes for Fountain Post, Justice Itumbi and lives in Kasarani said that their fares have gone as low as Ksh 40 during rush hours.

“We used to averagely pay 80 bob. Right now, we only pay sh 40 from Kasarani to town during the morning hours,” said Justice.

Bather Nyambura who runs a shop along the River road, claimed that she could sleep longer due to the shortest time she takes to town.

"Actually we are calling them Kibaki roads. They are good and modern," said Nyambura

Kamau Wachira who owns a fleet of buses on the same route said that the new super highway has made it easier for ferrying passengers to and from the town.  He however alleged that due to faster movements, the level of competition has gown up with passengers preferring new and well conditioned buses. He also alleged that the number accidents have grown up asking the government to educate people on how to use the modern road.

“We cannot predict the future of our business but lest wait and see,” said Wachira.
