The Prime Minister Raila Odinga continues to drum up support for the proposed constitution despite the ever growing rift in the Yes camp.

The PM has lashed on those who continue to oppose the proposed constitution citing the land issue as selfish Kenyans who want to protect their ill gotten wealth at the expense of the public.

“The government is trying to rectify the wrongs committed by the ancient regime we are dealing with those who were involved in the ancient regime as the driving forces that is why we are seeing resistance to this constitution on the basis of land issues.” Raila said.

The premier pointed out that the land clause will help out in addressing the historical land issues that are persistent in Kenya more particularly in the Rift Valley

Raila has accused those opposed to the constitution of protecting the illegally acquired large chucks of land as the new constitution will ensure equitable distribution of resources across all parts of the country.

The No camp have taken issue on the land clause claiming it is contentious and can cause more trouble in Kenya than solving the existing land issues

Former president of Kenya Daniel Moi has warned that the land issues is quite elusive and should be handled with great caution since it has a potential of tearing the country apart.

However, the prime minister is optimistic that the grand coalition which was formed as a convenience government will deliver to Kenyans and the proposed constitution will be adopted at the referendum in August.

“We as a government are moving towards achieving our goals. The grand coalition government was never credited with any success but as you can see we are forging on. Ultimately this grand coalition is going to deliver to Kenyan.” Raila said.
