National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has urged Kenyans to remain calm and united despite International Criminal Court (ICC) confirming international crimes charges facing four suspects.
In a statement issued immediately after the announcements by the court Tuesday, NCIC Chairman Dr Mzalendo Kibunjia said that Kenyans should maintain peace at this period.
“The suspects are innocent until proven guilty after the full trial.
This point was underscored by the lead judge. Ethnic communities and political parties are not on trial at the ICC,” He said
Kibunjia warned against use of the confirmations as an excuse to fan ethnic animosity. “The NCIC would like to assure Kenyans that NCIC will continue to monitor the situation and ensure tolerance and peaceful co-existence,” Said Kibunjia.
NCIC is a statutory mandated to facilitate and promote equality of opportunity, good relations, harmony and peaceful coexistence between persons of different ethnic communities.
