Church reiterate the NO Position on Draft

As the Yes Proponents launched a Yes campaign, the church continued to reiterate their position of rejecting the proposed constitution of Kenya.

Even as the 30 days civic education campaign goes on country wide, the church has strongly reaffirmed its no stand to the proposed constitution, pointing out that their strong views on some of the contentious issues have been ignored.

The issues, they observed include the right to life with strong emphasis on abortion and the entrenchment of Islamic Kadhi Courts in the draft constitution.

The Yes and no teams continue to traverse the country to try and woo Kenyans to either support or reject the proposed draft.

The campaigns have elicited debates even as the referendum set for 4th August draws closer as each camp tries to garner support for or against the proposed laws.

The church claims that their view on the draft were never put into consideration in the constitution making process thus they will campaign against the draft since they are not party to the clauses.

Key among the issues the church has been fronting for amendment is the liberalisation of abortion and the right to life.

However the church does not subscribe to the thoughts of the political class who say the draft can be amended once it has been passed.

They said they cannot in good conscience advice Kenyans to vote for the proposed constitution of Kenya with the hope of future amendments either can they leave the matter to Kenyans without giving considered advice in moral matters so that they can form their consciences in accord with the will of God expressed through the moral laws that form part of our cherished Christian tradition.

Kenyans who are to go to the ballot in August are now left to decide which way to vote.
