Mutai and Jelagat win Sotokoto Marathon

 
Geoffrey Mutai and Helah Chelagat on Sunday claimed the wins of the  second Sotokoto Safari Half Marathon in Nairobi with each bagging Sh1.2m.

Mutai who is a two time  Eindhoven Marathon champion and 12Km winner of the 2009 Kass International marathon  clocked 1:07:55  to beat defending champion  David Tarus who was second with Elijah Muturi settling for the third spot.

The women’s race Hella Chelagat led from the fifth kilometre to win the race in a time of 1:17:52 leading Nairobi Stanchart Marathon defending champion Irene Jerotich who finished second in a time of 1:19:22.

Chelagat said that she is preparing for a half marathon to be held next week in Morocco.

Peninah Arusei was fourth in a time of 1:19:36 with Helena Kirop coming fifth.
