Diamond League Shanghai meet



Kenya's dominance in the middle race was witnessed on Sunday during the Diamond League meet at the Chinese city of Shanghai when Janeth Jepkosgei won the 800M with Augustine Choge taking charge of the 1,500M and Kenya women dominating the 3,000M steeplechase.

Augustine Choge a member of the Kenyan team which won and set a world record in the 4 x 1500 metres relay in 2009 had to battle on the finish line with fellow Kenyan Asbel Kiprop who came second.

Choge registered a time of 3:32.20 with Kiprop finishing in a time of 3:32:22.
Ethiopian  Gebremedhin Mekkonen altered a clean top 10 finish for Kenya coming third  just ahead of  Kenyan  William Tanui who linked  Geofrey Rono, Suleiman
Simotwo, Nixon Chepseba, Haron Keitany, Eliud Kipchoge and  Alex Kipchirichir to top 10 finish filling the 4th -10th places respectively.

In 800M, World silver medalist Janeth Jepkosgei romped to victory in time of 2:01.06 to wad off competition from Great Britain's world medalist Jenny Meadows who was second in a time of 2:01.34 and Jamaica’s Kenia Sinclair 2:01.87 settled for the 3rd spot.

Olympic champion Pamela Jelimo came eighth.

The women's 3000M steeplechase was a Kenyan affair with 2009 World athletic final bronze medalist Gladys Kipkemoi leading Kenyans Milcah Chemos and Lydia Rotich to a podium finish.

Kipkemoi scaled the race in a time of 9:16:82 leading her agemate Chemos who was home in a time of 9:20:63.
