Gabon and Morocco win in CAF Openers

Newcomers Niger were welcome with a 2-0 defeat by hosts Gabon while Morocco fell 2-1 to North African football giants Morocco on the third day of the African Cup of Nations. Gabon’s impressive performance simulated that of co-hosts Equatorial Guinea who opened their Cup campaign with a defeat to Libya at the Bata Stadium. Gabon played before President Omar Bongo, the first lady and over 40,000 fans at the Libreville’s L’Amitie stadium. Gabon, beat Cameroon in their opening game in 2010 but failed to make the last eight.
