Newcomers Niger were welcome with a 2-0 defeat by hosts Gabon while Morocco fell 2-1 to North African football
giants Morocco on the third day of the African Cup of Nations.
Gabon’s impressive performance simulated that of co-hosts Equatorial Guinea who opened their Cup campaign with
a defeat to Libya at the Bata Stadium. Gabon played before President Omar Bongo, the first lady and over 40,000
fans at the Libreville’s L’Amitie stadium.
