All was jubilation at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport when the new world 800 metres record holder David Lekuta Rudisha jetted in on Wednesday morning from Split Croatia where he participated in the IAAF Continental Cup representing Africa in the Inter Continental Championships.
The 800M star was received as tears of joy flowed freely as the 21 years old Rudisha landed on Kenyan soil weeks after seeing off a 13 years standing record in the 800M set by Kenyan born Dane runner Wilson Kipketer.
Rudisha galloped beyond the 1.41.11 Kipketer's world record which stood untouched for 13 years doing it twice in two weeks with the first instance being in Berlin where he ran 1.41.09 before bettering it in Rieti Italy a week later to 1.41.01.
The African champion has set his eyes in improving the world record sometimes next year during the World Championships in South Korea and maybe 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The champion however gave credits to his pace-maker Sammy Tangui who he exceptionally praised for the record.
Rudisha said that he has worked for long with Tangui having trained, lived and made plans together, saying the record is a one of their achievement.
With partying in Nairobi having cooled down a grand homecoming party to welcome home the 800M hero is scheduled for 17th of this month at his home in Kilgoris.
