Governors conference gives airlines major lift

Airlines plying Kisumu route have received a boon this week thanks to the Devolution Conference in Kakamega.

By Sunday, nearly all airlines were filled up, with high demand pushing the cost of air ticket through the roof.

Delegates to the conference are mainly using the Kisumu Airport, which is the nearest facility to Kakamega town where the conference is being held.

Jambojet chief executive officer Willem Hondius says the flights were fully booked by Sunday.

“From Sunday our flights were fully booked following demand of travelers heading to the conference,” said Mr. Hondius. One way ticket to Kisumu on Jambojet was going at Sh15,200 on Tuesday. Ordinarily, it should be selling at between Sh4,200 and Sh5,200.

The return flights on Friday, after the end of the conference, have also been filled up in some of the airlines with available seats costing an arm and a leg.

For instance, a passenger traveling on Jambojet with the evening flight from Kisumu to Nairobi using 8pm flight will have to part with Sh15,200.

The 2 pm flight on Friday is fully booked. Fly 540 is also sold out on Friday 27.
