Sixteen people have been arraigned in a Nakuru court and charged with operating illegal pharmacies.
Two of them pleaded guilty while the rest denied the charges when they appeared before Principle Magistrate Bernard Mararo. Those who denied the charge were released on cash bails of Sh. 10,000 each.
George Kimani and Lucy Nyambura Wairimu who pleaded guilty to the charges were also released on cash bail of Sh. 10,000 pending the court ruling that will be delivered on June 3 and 4 respectively.
They were arrested during an operation mounted by Pharmacy and Poisons Board inspectors led by Inspector Joseph Kaluai.
Scholastica Kwamboka, Bosire Ndugi, Daniel Kago, Davidson Mbuta, Timina Njeru and Ezekiel Sang all pleaded not guilty to the charges of operating illegal pharmacies at various places within Nakuru County.
Others who pleaded not guilty included Joan Kipchumba, Margaret Waitherero, Rosemary Mwende, Royston Njumwa, Purity Githinji, Jacinta Nangila, Nick Boit and Bale Cherop whose cases will be mentioned and heard on diverse dates between June 3 and August 29, 2019.
The suspects were all accused of operating illegal chemists, operating without registration and being found in possession of poisons.
