Education stakeholders convene meeting to review reopening of schools

Education Stakeholders have convened a meeting ahead to explore the country’s readiness to resume the academic calendar as the COVID-19 curve flattens.

“Even though we had said that school may reopen January next year, as stakeholders after having looked at all aspects we have come to a consensus that indeed it is time to relook this process because the curve is flattening,” said Magoha.

The recommendations by the stakeholders will be reviewed during the ministerial meeting that will take place on the 25th of September after which the President will issue new guidelines on the further re-opening of the economy and the re-opening of schools.

CS Magoha however said the major challenge will be achieving social distancing in public schools saying the government will attempt to provide masks for the vulnerable and less fortunate school-going children.
